Taihan holds official opening of new cable plant; reports 3 large U.S. cable projects

Taihan Completes First Phase of New Submarine Cable Plant

Taihan Cable & Solution (Taihan)ย recently completed the first phase ofย submarine cable plant 1ย in the Godae district of the Asan National Industrial Complex in Dangjin-si, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea. This step significantly strengthens Taihanโ€™s role in offshore wind and subsea power cable projects.

At the ceremony, executives fromย Taihanย andย Hoban Groupโ€”which acquired the former Taihan Electric Wire in Marchโ€”joined the event. They toured the new production line, officially launched operations, and, in addition, delivered speeches that highlighted the plantโ€™s strategic importance.

Inter-Array Cable Production for Offshore Wind

Submarine cable plant 1 covers aboutย 44,800 sq mย behind Godae Pier at Pyeongtaekโ€™s Dangjin Port. The project is progressing inย two phases, and Taihan now focuses the completed first step onย inter-array cableย production for offshore wind projects.

After a series of tests and prototype runs, Taihan plans to ramp up full-scale operations. The company will first produce inter-array cables for theย Yeonggwang Nakwol offshore wind power project, where it secured a major contract last December. This contract further strengthens Taihanโ€™s offshore wind cable portfolio.

Taihan Vice Chairmanย Song Jong-minย said the company will speed up construction of both theย second step of submarine cable plant 1ย andย submarine cable plant 2, showing a clear long-term commitment to subsea cables.

Second Phase and New Submarine Cable Plant Plans

Theย second stepย of submarine cable plant 1 will produceย export cables, and Taihan targets completion by theย first half of 2025. As a result, the expanded facility will support larger offshore wind and interconnection projects.

Meanwhile, Taihan is planning aย second submarine cable plantย that will includeย Vertical Continuous Vulcanization (VCV)ย lines forย export cablesย andย HVDC cables. The company is currently in the final stages of reviewing the site, and this plant will play a key role in future high-capacity transmission projects.

Taihan Wins Three Major U.S. Power Grid Projects

In addition to its domestic investments,ย Taihan Cable & Solutionย securedย three significant power grid projects in the U.S.ย valued at approximatelyย $93.5 million. These wins further expand Taihanโ€™s footprint in the North American power infrastructure market.

The projects mark a major milestone for the company, which specializes in advanced cables and turnkey solutions forย transmission, distribution, and infrastructure. One project focuses onย ultra-high voltage (UHV)ย cable, while the other two involveย medium-to-low voltageย cable supply.

Supporting Semiconductor and Grid Upgrade Projects

Theย ultra-high voltage project, worth aroundย $32.4 million, is located in theย eastern U.S.ย and will deliverย 345 kVย cable for a new semiconductor plant inย New York State. This project supports the regionโ€™s growing semiconductor manufacturing capacity and long-term power reliability.

Theย other two projectsย lie in theย Los Angeles area of California. One of these contracts is a long-term agreement to supplyย medium-to-low voltage cablesย overย three years, supporting local grid reinforcement and urban infrastructure upgrades.

With these latest awards,ย TC&Sย has now secured overย $237 millionย in orders in the U.S. market. Ongoing U.S. government initiatives and investments to upgrade and expand the national power grid further increase the strategic value of Taihanโ€™s projects and long-term partnerships.
