Poland’s TFKable Group and DeepOcean, a Norway-based subsea-services contractor, plan to form a joint venture to pursue offshore-wind inter-array cable projects, supported by a new cable-laying vessel dedicated to that work.
The proposed venture would combine TFKable’s subsea-cable technology and manufacturing resources—including those of Tele-Fonika Kable and JDR Cable Systems—with DeepOcean’s offshore engineering, installation and seabed-intervention capabilities. A Sept. 23 joint announcement said the companies aim to offer an integrated engineering, procurement, construction and installation package spanning seabed mapping, route surveys, engineering, cable manufacture and transport, trenching, installation and cable protection. Inter-array systems, which connect turbines to offshore substations, will be the venture’s initial focus. The companies said the platform could later support other subsea-cable applications.
“TFKable and JDR Cable Systems have developed strong expertise in inter-array cable solutions, supported by continued investment in technology, manufacturing capacity and product development,” said Piotr Mirek, a Tele-Fonika Kable management-board member and executive director for supply chains and investments at JDR Cable Systems. “Together with DeepOcean’s offshore engineering and installation capabilities, we see an opportunity to offer customers a more integrated solution covering a broader part of the cable project lifecycle.”
The planned cable-laying vessel would be built specifically for inter-array work and owned by a separate vessel-owning company. Its proposed shareholders would be Poland’s state-owned Industrial Development Agency (Agencja Rozwoju Przemysłu), DeepOcean and TFKable Group’s controlling entity.
The collaboration is structured as a multiyear development program, with services and assets to be introduced progressively through milestones planned to 2029. TFKable’s continuing subsea-cable manufacturing investments in Poland and the U.K. would support the venture, the companies said.
The venture remains subject to approval by relevant competition authorities and customary closing conditions. Meanwhile, the partners said they will continue to serve customers separately with cable supply and installation services on a project-by-project basis.
