Laser Micrometer for Fine Wire was created by Archived Forum Admin
Dear All,
I am looking for a Laser Micrometer capable of measuring a ~0.004" diameter wire with an accuracy of less than 0.3 microns.
Can anyone recommend which suppliers to contact/avoid.
Thanks.

Hello again,
Try one of these companies:
Strange that you would mix metric and imperial systems of measurement. 0.004 inches is 101.6 microns and a +/- 1% diameter monitor will give you an accuracy of +/- 1.016 microns at that diameter. Likewise don't limit yourself to just lasers because there are LED instruments that work just as well.
A 1/10 of 1% accuracy diameter monitor for your particular requirement will have to be discussed with each instrument manufacturer. Please let us know how you make out.

I guess sometimes I just like to mix it up....could be a result of my Imperial American roots transplanted into the metric land of Canada.
...anyway, thanks to all for the responses.
From the specification sheets I have reviewed it appears that the some of the most accurate laser micrometers are supplied by Zumbach, Sikora, and Freedom Technologies.
Thanks again!

My current employer has lots of Sikora gauges. I use them alot and believe every data point I extract from them. They are world class equipment.

Sikora has a diameter gauge made specifically for fine wire. It is the Laser 2003 and will measure products from 0.05 to 3 mm.
