Tire cord wire is made from silicon-killed, hot-rolled, Stelmore-cooled steel rod. It is used to reinforce elastomeric components, e.g., rubber, of a pneumatic tire to give the tire shape, size-stability, bruise resistance, durability, and load-carrying capability. Wire used for tire reinforcement has very demanding requirements regarding specific properties such as tensile strength, adhesion, durability and modulus. Tire cord wire is electrolytic brass-coated, high carbon (0.65% - 0.85%) steel wire drawn to high strength levels and cabled or stranded into constructions suited for reinforcing belts and carcasses of pneumatic tires.
