U.K. Clockwinder returns on Nov. 3 to WAI for 3rd appearance, but 1st time live

The WAI 2022 clockwinding ceremony will feature Martin Thacker as this year’s official representative from the British wire and cable industry. This time, he will perform the clock winding in person during his visit to WAI headquarters on November 3.

WAI 2022 Clockwinding Ceremony Returns In Person

Thacker previously led the ceremony in both 2020 and 2021. In 2020, he became the first virtual clockwinder during a special WAI meeting that also included the Annual Meeting and Mordica Award presentation.

He returned again in 2021 to perform the ceremony virtually for the WAI Board of Directors. During both appearances, he emphasized the importance of maintaining strong international relationships within the wire and cable industry.

Honoring a Longstanding Industry Tradition

Each year, a British representative rewinds the historic grandfather clock presented to WAI on October 20, 1948. The British wire industry gifted the clock to recognize support received during World War II.

Thacker serves as a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Tinplate Workers Alias Wireworkers (https://www.tinplateworkers.co.uk), continuing this long-standing tradition.

A Legacy in Wire Manufacturing

Thacker brings a deep personal connection to the industry. His grandfather worked as a wiredrawer in Sheffield, and his father and uncle worked at Markham and Company Ltd. (https://www.markhamgrp.com).

Now, he returns for the third time—this time in person—to carry on a meaningful tradition that connects past and present industry leaders.
