The Wire Association International (WAI) is accepting applications for the WAI Wire Link Traveling Scholarship 2024, a program that gives wire professionals the opportunity to visit Europe and attend wire Düsseldorf 2024 from April 15–19.
WAI Wire Link Traveling Scholarship 2024 Overview
The WAI Wire Link Traveling Scholarship 2024 allows a selected candidate to explore how international companies operate while gaining firsthand industry experience. The program alternates annually between a U.S. participant traveling to Europe and a U.K. participant visiting the United States, in partnership with the Worshipful Company of Tin Plate Workers alias Wire Workers of England.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
WAI seeks ambitious professionals with at least two years of experience in the wire and cable industry or related sectors, including manufacturers and suppliers.
Candidates must:
- Work full-time in the wire and cable industry for at least two years.
- Maintain WAI membership in good standing.
- Complete an interview process.
- Attend the WAI annual meeting for the award presentation.
- Travel to England and wire Düsseldorf for two weeks.
- Remain employed with the nominating company during travel.
- Provide a signed letter of recommendation.
- Submit a report following the trip for WAI publication.
- Write an essay explaining professional goals and expected benefits.
Scholarship Benefits and Career Impact
The scholarship covers all travel expenses in the U.K. and Germany. Employers only need to cover the employee’s time and travel to the departure airport.
Recent recipients highlight the program’s impact. For example, Erika Akins, the 2022 scholar, advanced to applications engineering manager at Southwire Company. Additionally, past winner Kurt Breischaft now serves as President of SDI LaFarga COPPERWORKS and held the role of WAI President in 2023.
