TThe Wire Association International (WAI) (https://wirenet.org) is now accepting applications for the Wire Link Traveling Scholarship 2026. This program gives wire and cable professionals a unique opportunity to visit companies in England and attend wire Düsseldorf 2026 in Germany, scheduled for April 13–17.
Applicants must submit materials by January 1, 2026.
Wire Link Traveling Scholarship 2026 Program Overview
The Wire Link Traveling Scholarship 2026 targets motivated professionals who want to expand their knowledge and grow within the wire and cable industry. WAI selects one candidate to travel internationally, gain hands-on exposure to global operations, and build industry connections.
The program, launched in 2000, operates in partnership with the Worshipful Company of Tin Plate Workers alias Wire Workers of England (https://www.wireworkers.co.uk). Each cycle alternates between a U.S. participant traveling to Europe and a U.K. participant visiting the United States.
WAI and its partners cover all major travel expenses, including visits to England and Germany. The participant’s employer only covers time away from work and transportation to and from the departure airport.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Work full-time in the wire and cable industry for at least two years
- Hold active WAI membership in good standing
- Attend an interview if selected
- Participate in the WAI annual meeting award presentation
- Travel internationally for approximately two weeks
- Remain employed with the sponsoring company during travel
- Provide a signed letter of recommendation
- Submit a detailed report to both their employer and WAI
- Complete an essay explaining career goals and program value
These requirements ensure that the scholarship supports professionals who can apply and share their experience within the industry.
Past Scholars and Career Impact
The program continues to support long-term career growth. For example, Avery Caraker of Prysmian Group (https://www.prysmiangroup.com) received the scholarship in 2024 while working as a process engineering technician.
Previous recipients have also advanced into leadership roles. Kurt Breischaft, the 2006 scholar, later became president of SDI La Farga COPPERWORKS (https://www.lafargacopperworks.com) and CEO of Advanced Digital Cable, LLC. He also served as WAI President in 2023.
