Annealing of SS wire was created by Archived Forum Admin
In the annealing of austinitic SS [300 series] wire, what is the proper (1) temperature, (2) speed, and (3) % of Hydrogen? We are running, at this time, at ~1920°F and ~94 fpm, w/ 35%H-65%N mix. Is there a more optimum setting, and/or how best to determine such?
Thanks.

I'm not sure that anyone is going to respond to this request so here is what I would suggest:.
(1) Learn from your SS supplier if the disassociated ammonia annealing atmosphere you are using is to its optimized proportions.
(2) Carefully design a series of quick experiments, individually varying the other parameters on one gage size to determine if you are indeed optimized.
(3) Optimize that size. Basic physical properties I imagine will be the measure.
(4) Cautiously follow through on the other gage sizes.
That's the process engineering approach we would consider.

Is it worth to anneal 0.7 ss wire at 1100 C.
our requirement is reduce the tensile strength to bellow 65 kg/mm sqr and the .7 to be redrawn to .60
