Extrusion screws information was created by Archived Forum Admin
Can somebody recommend me a book or a paper to teach me all the extrusion screw possibilities?

For example I know there is Maddock but which others?, when I should use the single flight and when the double? When to use colmonoy and when not?, which is the best for PVC and which is the best for HDPE?, etc.

For a really good background in plastics extrusion, including screw design, I suggest you attend the Davis-Standard two day seminar titled The Basics of Plastics Extrusion at Pawcatuck, Connecticut, on October 4 and 5, 2005. The course fee is $750.00 and all the information, including hotels, is at davis-standard.com/trshow.htm Make sure you register soon.

Several books on the subject are available from SPE such as "Screw Extrusion: Technology and Science"
This book emphasizes the understanding of the underlying principles of screw extrusion and will help the engineer optimize equipment and enhance production rates and properties of synthetic polymers. Reaching these goals is dependent on optimum screw design in order to provide homogeneous melts for successful post processing such as fiber spinning, blown film, cast film, and sheets. Most importantly, the book promotes a concise understanding of the processes governing extrusion, solid conveying, melting, and metering.

Contents Include:
Introduction; Fundamentals; Single Screw Extrusion Technology; Technology of Single Screw Extrusion with Reciprocating Screws; Single Screw Extruder Analysis and Design; Multiscrew Extrusion.

Avaiable at www.4spe.org/training/products/0243.php

Another option, if you are looking at a specific application, is to call a specific screw manufacturer directly. Xaloy is one very good source.
