NSW Deutsche Bucht Offshore Cables Project Begins
The NSW Deutsche Bucht offshore cables project marks a key step in offshore wind development. Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke (NSW), a subsidiary of General Cable, has partnered with Van Oord to deliver essential cable infrastructure. As a result, the project will strengthen renewable energy capacity in the North Sea. In addition, it will support long-term energy goals across Europe.

Cable Supply for Offshore Wind Farm
NSW will design, manufacture, and supply 45 km of medium-voltage submarine power cables. These cables will connect turbines at the Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm, owned by Northland Power.
Furthermore, the company plans to complete delivery by spring 2019. Therefore, the schedule aligns with the overall construction timeline and ensures steady progress.
Installation and Project Location
Van Oord will lead installation using its Aeolus and Nexus vessels. These specialized ships will ensure efficient and accurate cable deployment. Meanwhile, coordinated operations will help reduce delays and improve performance.
The wind farm sits in the North Sea, about 95 km northwest of Borkum, Germany. In this location, strong wind conditions support consistent energy generation. As a result, the site offers high efficiency for renewable output.
Power Generation and Community Impact
The project includes 31 MHI Vestas turbines, each rated at 8.0 MW (8.4 MW Power Mode). Together, they will generate 252 MW of power.
Once completed in late 2019, the wind farm will supply renewable energy to more than 178,000 households. In turn, this will reduce reliance on traditional energy sources. Moreover, it will contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
