Prysmian Group reports 40 million euro cable contract from Italian company

Prysmian Wins €40 Million Contract for Capri-Sorrento Submarine Cable Project

Prysmian Group has secured a €40 million contract to develop a new submarine power cable link between Capri and Sorrento. This Prysmian Capri Sorrento submarine cable project will strengthen Italy’s power infrastructure and improve energy reliability for the island.

Prysmian Capri Sorrento Submarine Cable Project Details

To begin with, Prysmian Group (https://www.prysmiangroup.com) will deliver a turnkey HVAC 150 kV cable system connecting power stations in Sorrento and Capri’s Gasto ecological island. The project includes a 16-kilometer submarine route and an additional 3-kilometer land connection.

Rete Italia SpA, part of Terna SpA (https://www.terna.it), awarded the contract to Prysmian as part of its ongoing grid modernization efforts.

Manufacturing and Installation Capabilities

Prysmian will manufacture the cables at its facility in Arco Felice, Naples. In addition, the company will carry out installation using its specialized cable-laying vessel, Cable Enterprise.

Furthermore, Prysmian will supply all network components and complete the required civil engineering works, ensuring full project delivery.

Enhancing Energy Reliability in Capri

The project, scheduled for completion in 2019, builds on Prysmian’s previous work with Terna. Notably, the company delivered the Capri-Torre Annunziata submarine cable link in 2013, which spans approximately 31 kilometers.

This new connection will complete the Capri power ring, thereby increasing grid efficiency and reliability for the island’s energy system.

Strong Track Record in Submarine Cable Projects

Prysmian continues to lead major infrastructure developments across the Mediterranean region. For example, the company has completed projects such as SA.PE.I. (Sardinia-mainland Italy)Sorgente-Rizziconi (Sicily-Calabria), and international links like Spain-Morocco and Mallorca-Ibiza.

As a result, Prysmian strengthens its position as a global leader in submarine cable systems and energy infrastructure solutions.
